Marilynn Vanderstaay

Marilynn is for the most part the writer/editor/publisher of Around Westmount.

Marilynn is known in both Westmount, QC and London, ON for  her inalienable skill of sourcing and  connecting people to the right person for whatever the need. A community investment specialist, she uses her skill as networker/connector extraordinaire to make things happen in and for  her community and beyond.

She.is an accomplished journalist/writer, trainer/speaker, impresario  who combines her skills to create cadeaux such as Around Westmount  for her community.

Under the umbrella of her company Regards, Marilynn, she has been published in a myriad of print and online publications including Canadian Living , Readers’ Digest, and Barricades magazines and the Montreal Gazette and the London Free Press and a variety of community papers. Her much anticipated feature articles  and columns Scuttlebutt in London Business Magazine and Around Westmount first in the Westmount Examiner and now as her blog, have been enjoyed by both  business and residential  communities.

An impresario, Marilynn has organized effective networking events for over 25 years including Barn Raisers, Tree Toppers and most recently Continental Teas plus specialty events including birthday galas, reunions and launches and organizational events and fundraisers.

As a trainer she trains in soft skills including The Architecture of Connecton, Be Your Own Publicist, and personal skills including Ducks in a Row, Become Yourself and Inside the Healing Journey.

Brenda Linn

Brenda Linn lived and studied in Canada, Austria and England before moving to Quebec in 2000.  Her eclectic list of mentors include Dennis Lee, Northrup Frye, Karl Orff, ecologist Thomas Berry, and psychiatrist and neurosurgeon Viktor Emil Frankl (this last at one remove, through Frankl’s distinguished student and colleague, Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Lukas.)

In Toronto, Brenda spent some time teaching English literature and creative writing at Havergal College.  Then, while her children were young, she worked with Elisabeth Lukas and a team of Canadian professionals to create and teach a Canadian certificate programme in Meaning Centred Therapy. This programme was offered at the University of Toronto until 2001, when Brenda’s husband Ron Stringer took a teaching post at McGill.

In Montreal, Brenda immediately connected with Barbara Bobrow, founding director of the Learning Associates of Montreal on Greene Avenue, and worked at the centre until it closed in 2015.  During this time, she also completed an interdisciplinary PhD in the Psychology and Pedagogy of Reading, did some sessional lecturing, and became involved in the social justice initiatives of Christ Church Cathedral and Amnesty International.

Brenda work has increasing focused on aboriginal students, on Montreal Island, Northern Quebec and Nunavik.  She has written a number of books for children and teachers, as well as poetry for children and adults.

Bernie is the webmaster/co-publisher at the Around Westmount online magazine. Without Bernie’s  expertise in using the most up to date software and other technologies, Around Westmount would not be as easy a read… or as lovely.
