As part of its ongoing outreach to the community, Josa Maule’s M.S.O.P.A,(Maules’ School of Performing Arts) is offering a free trial acting class for children, teens and adults this Saturday, September 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the school located in the Greene Centre, 1090 Greene Avenue.
“No auditions are required,” says Josa. “Just passion and desire!”
As founder and director of the school, Josa recognizes that participants come for a variety of reasons. “Acting helps with self improvement and self-empowerment. Acting is for fun and acting is for all ages,” she says. “Even after “a certain age” we still look for w hat makes us happy and gives us joy. Acting is an opportunity to take a journey of self-discovery through a creative process.”
Participants at the open house will have the opportunity to be part of free trial workshops, ask questions and meet with the staff.
M.S.O.P.A. has been serving Montreal’s acting community for 25 years. In 2016 Josa was featured in Maclean’s magazine’s special edition “110 Canadian Stories” in which they called her “Montreal’s Acting Mama.”
“Not everyone is taking acting classes to be an actor, and not everyone who is acting will be an actor, but…it is the journey you go through.” Josa has taken over 5,000 students through that journey for over 24 years.
“The world needs great actors! Since the dawn of time we have looked to our artists to teach us and inspire us, to move us and yes, to make us laugh. What a great job! What an awesome responsibility!”
M.S.O.P.A. offers serious training in a safe, fun and challenging environment where whether you are a carpenter, a basketball player or a computer programmer participants know that the more skills you have, the more likely you are to get a good job. “It’s the same with acting. The more skills you master, the better you become at your craft. Great craft equals great acting. Great acting will get you work. Whatever work you put in improves the product you put out and as a committed artist you must be willing to put in the work necessary to master your craft.
Josa’s dedication to the arts and to her students has earned us the respect and recognition of the acting industry. In an industry where there are no guarantees, she and her staff educate their actors to be realistic and learn the business by providing networking opportunities.
