As a preamble Westmount’s Canada’s 15oth anniversary celebrations. noted Canadian singer Barbara Lewis performed My
Canada: Singing the Soul of a Country presented by the Westmount Public Library in Victoria Hall earlier this month.
For the audience of mostly Baby Boomers the event felt more like an evening in Barbara’s living room than a concert as Barbara sang a repertoire of familiar and not so familiar songs written solely by familiar and not so familiar Canadian singers and songwriters. From Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell, to Stompin’ Tom Connors to Gordon Lightfoot and Ian and Sylvia and Kenny Loggins, the program was rounded out with songs by Raymond Levesque, Greyson Gritt and Anna McGarrigle and more.
For those who missed the opportunity to hear Barbara’s passion for Canada and its musical artists, there is another chance this weekend. Barbara will perform as part of the Canada Day festivities on Saturday in the park.
