La Ronde’s Pitoune Log Ride No Longer

This has nothing to do with Westmount today, but with every Westmount resident and ex-patriot who was fortunate to have gone to the amusement park  La Ronde during Expo 67, at Man and His World or since. I pulled this off a tweet… a sad tweet.

La Ronde’s Pitoune, the classic log ride whose splash-filled turns and photo finish captured the hearts of Montrealers, is no longer.

“After 50 seasons, the Pitoune ride has reached the end of its useful life and will not re-open for our 2017 season,” Six Flags, the owner of La Ronde, said in a statement.

Inaugurated during Expo 67, the Pitoune was an early favourite among La Ronde-goers.

It featured sharp turns, a conveyor belt and a water-soaked finish, but the gradual decline throughout most of the journey down made it palatable for fun seekers of all ages. sigh.

I was 13, the perfect age is enjoy Expo 67. If you ere there you will  remember this ride… how we stood in line for hours to get on.. and then too soon it was finished… and drenched, we got back into line. It really was too much fun.  And now it is over.. for our children, and our grandchildren. . sigh.
