It’s that time of year again. The Westmount Municipal Association is calling for nominations for its annual Derek Walker Volunteer Citizen of the Year award. Since its early years the city of Westmount and volunteering have been synonymous. Volunteers are generally difficult to identify because they just go around doing what they do in schools and sports programs, in churches and synagogues, community organizations, seniors groups and even businesses, quietly and without any fanfare, unless they are movers and grovers who make dramatic changes in the city. There is no shortage of dedicated volunteers in our community. The WMA wants to know about them.
The award honours a Westmount resident through any of its diverse groups. Previous Volunteer Citizens of the Year include familiar and not so familiar names of Westmount residents who made a career over many years of giving outstanding volunteer service to our community, often in addition to other careers.
If you know someone you believe has made a difference in the Westmount community, please contact the WMA with their name and a brief summary of their volunteer work. Once again this year Marilynn Gillies is leading the committee 514.932.2026. Nominations may be sent to the committee via the nomination form http://www.wma-amw.org/blog/?p=1733 The deadline for submissions is April 28.
The recipient will be announced at the WMA Annual General Meeting, Wednesday May 10 at 6:30 pm in Victoria Hall, 4626 Sherbrooke Street West.
